How to Remove Cannondale Saddle Circlips

Cannondale bicycles are known for their oversized aluminum tubes. Cannondale bicycles use a set of "circlips" that are part of the bottom bracket. The bottom bracket is the spindle where the cranks attach and allow the spinning of the pedals. To get at and remove the circlips, you need to remove the bottom bracket first. To get at this piece of equipment, you need to out the bike on a work stand. Once the bottom bracket is out, the circlips come off quickly.

Instructions

Clamp the bicycle into the work stand using the bike's seat stem. Pull the chain up and off the chain rings at the cranks and set it over the rear tire.

    • 2

Insert the hex wrenches into the center of the cranks, at the hex screws, at 180 degrees to each other (on both sides of the cranks). Turn the wrenches in opposite directions and loosen the screws. Once they're loosened, unscrew them and pull the cranks off the spindle.

Place the bottom bracket tool remover over the bottom bracket spindle on the right-hand side of the Cannondale bicycle. Turn the tool half a turn counterclockwise to loosen and pop the bottom bracket out of the frame. Once it's loosened, pull it out of the frame.

Grip the circular ends of the bottom bracket. These are the circlips. Pop them up and pull them off and set them aside. The circlips are now removed from the bicycle and bottom bracket.
