How to Install a Wald Bicycle Kickstand

While many recreational bicycles have kickstands already installed, some racing bikes eliminate them to reduce weight and wind resistance. If you need to add or replace a kickstand, Wald manufactures two models: standard and rear-mount. The standard version attaches to chain stays, and the rear-mount attaches to the rear axle. Whichever you choose, it's not difficult to install a Wald bicycle kickstand.

Instructions

  1. Standard Installation

    • 1

Loosen and remove the nut and washer from the bolt at the top of the Wald kickstand, using an adjustable wrench. Separate the top half of the clamp from the bottom. Mount the top half of the clamp across the chain stays.

    • 2

Place the bottom half of the clamp on the opposite side of the chain stays. The kickstand arm should be to the right side of the bike.

    • 3

Replace the nut and washer. Use an adjustable wrench to tighten the clamp bolt and secure the Wald kickstand to your bike.

    Rear-Mount Installation

    • 4

Loosen and remove the axle nut on the right side of the back axle, using an adjustable wrench. If your bike has a quick-release lever, release it and loosen the acorn nut. Then slide the quick-release assembly off of the axle.

    • 5

Place the hole in the kickstand bracket over the axle. Replace the axle nut or quick-release assembly through the hole in the kickstand and back through the axle.

    • 6

Align the kickstand with the axle, using your hands. Use an adjustable wrench to tighten the axle nut or close the quick-release lever and secure the Wald kickstand to your bike.
