How to Level a Brooks Saddle

JB Brooks & Co was established in 1866. Now known as Brooks England, the company is known to produce some of the most comfortable, long-lasting bicycle saddles on the market. Made of genuine leather, Brooks saddles essentially "wear in" to your body, making the saddle more comfortable over time. However, unless your Brooks saddle is leveled properly, it will make for an uncomfortable ride.

Instructions

    • 1

Set your bike in a stationary trainer or recruit a friend to hold you bike upright while you work. You cannot level the saddle while the bike is leaning on its kickstand.

    • 2

Loosen the seat-post swivel bolt using a 6mm hex wrench. The saddle should be loose enough that you can swivel it back and forth in the saddle mount. If you have a through-bolt seat post, use a 13mm wrench to loosen the saddle mount.

    • 3

Place a foot-long level on top of the saddle. The level should be aligned in the center of the saddle, parallel with the top tube of the bike.

    • 4

Swivel the saddle back and forth on the saddle mount and watch the bubble in the level. When the saddle is level, tighten the seat-post mount bolt or through-bolt.

    • 5

Ride your bike to ensure the saddle's new position is comfortable.
