Techniques or Tips for Increasing Revs on the Bowling Ball
-
Ball Setup
-
The easiest way to increase revolutions is to do so by having your ball drilled to promote more revs. Rather than using a full or semi-finger grip, where your front fingers are in the ball as deep as the first knuckle, have the ball drilled for a fingertip grip. This can make it more difficult to support the weight of the ball but will promote a flip of your fingers that will increase the revolutions.
Wrist Support
-
Using a wrist-supporting device will help you ensure that your thumb comes out of the ball before your fingers, during release. Again, it is the flip of the fingers that promotes more revolutions. If your wrist collapses prior to release, it is likely that your fingers will come out before your thumb and cause the ball to skid.
Pinky Tuck
-
Fold your pinky finger, on your throwing hand, under the ball. This will force more of the ball's weight onto your fingers, especially your index finger, and help you create more rotation and tilt at release.
Grip Position
-
After settling your grip position in your bowling ball, spread your index finger out away from your middle finger. The wider grip will help to increase the revolutions and the hook on the ball.
