Bowling Consistency Tips
-
Arm Movement
-
For many bowlers, the most important aspect in being consistent -- and perhaps the hardest to perfect -- is the arm swing motion. Bowlers should always swing their arms straight back before throwing the ball; curling the arm is a common flaw that reduces accuracy.
Approach
-
Bowlers should always take the same number of steps as they make their approach to release the ball. When aiming at pins left standing after the first ball of a frame, they should strive to always place their feet in the same places when lining up their approaches for the various remaining pin combinations.
Release
-
The release point is another critical aspect of consistency in bowling. Bowlers should always strive to release the ball at the bottom of their arm swing. Letting the ball go too soon or too late, even by fractions of a second, can mean inaccuracies in the aim of the ball.
Stick to a Delivery
-
Bowlers should find a delivery of the ball that is comfortable and stick with it, through good and bad times. Constantly tinkering with the basic approach due to a few bad games can hurt, rather than help, in developing consistency.
Keep It Dry
-
Even small amounts of moisture on the ball or lane can affect consistency. Bowlers should always make sure their hand and the ball are dry before stepping up to the lane. The approach on the lane should be checked as well to ensure that it, too is dry.
