What Supplies Are Needed for Bowling?

Getting ready for a day at the bowling alley? To ensure that your bowling excursion is both fun and safe, be sure you pack all the proper supplies. A bowling ball is needed, but so are a variety of other items. Before you hit the lanes, double check that you have the appropriate articles of clothing, bowling first aid materials and more.
  1. Bowling Ball

    • Bowling balls come in a variety of sizes and colors, allowing you to pick out a ball that reflects both your personality and skill level. To determine an appropriate size of a bowling ball for you, divide your weight by 10. Example, if you are a 110 lbs., an 11lb. will work for you.

    Socks

    • A clean, cloth pair of socks is needed for bowling. Whether you are renting bowling shoes or you have your own, socks will present blisters from occurring on your feet and wick moisture from your feet.

    Bowling Shoes

    • Special shoes are required on bowling lanes. Since the wood bowling lanes are sensitive, it is important to have bowling shoes with the appropriate soles so as not to damage the wood. Bowling shoes also have been manufactured to help with your game by allowing you to slide, creating better bowling form and more power behind the ball.

    Bean Bag of Chalk

    • Hands get sweaty while you are bowling. To remove the moisture from your hands, pat a bean bag of chalk between throws. You can get a bean bag of chalk at any sporting goods store.

    Finger Hole Inserts

    • Depending on the temperature outside or in the bowling alley, your fingers and hands may swell or shrink. Bringing along finger or thumb hole inserts will ensure that your ball still fits around your fingers.

    First Aid

    • Blisters and cuts are some of the most prevalent bowling injuries. Be prepared by having Band-Aids and antiseptic spray in your bowling bag.
