1
Decide what type of ball you want or need based on your skill level. If you are a beginning bowler a plastic ball will suffice. More advanced bowlers should be purchasing a reactive resin or proactive bowling ball.
-
2
Determine the size of bowling ball you need with a scale and a calculator. Weigh yourself accurately. You will want one pound of ball weight for every ten pounds of actual weight. For example, if a woman is 120 pounds she should be throwing a 12-pound ball. Divide your weight by 10 to determine your designated ball weight.
-
3
Hold the ball to get a good feel for its weight and how it moves. Although your calculation may tell you to purchase a 14-lb. ball, you can add up to two additional pounds for a more powerful throw and impact.
-
4
Purchase a ball within your budget. Plastic balls start at $50. And higher end, reactive resin and proactive balls start at $100.
-
5
Get the ball drilled to your hand measurements and specifications. This can be done at any local pro-shop.
