How to Wrap With No Tape

Proper hand wraps are an important aid for an athlete in a striking sport, both in official bouts as well as sparring sessions and in training. The wrap adds stability to the wrist in order to help brace it during strikes that land. While some hand wraps require taping, using a wrap with a Velcro end along with a thumb loop allows boxers to apply their wrap without using tape to help secure it.

Instructions

    • 1

Slip the loop of the wrap over the thumb on the hand being wrapped.

    • 2

Wrap around your wrist once, then your thumb once. Repeat both wraps a second time.

    • 3

Drape the wrap across the top of your hand so the wrap is by the base of your pinkie.

    • 4

Wrap around your knuckles three times, keeping your fingers spread, finishing with the wrap between your thumb and index fingers.

    • 5

Drape the wrap over the top of your hand diagonally to the wrist beneath your pinkie, then wrap around your wrist so the wrap is below your thumb.

    • 6

Pass the wrap through the space between your middle and ring fingers then back to beneath your thumb.

    • 7

Drape the wrap over your hand to the base of your pinkie.

    • 8

Wrap around the knuckles two or three more times, so that just enough wrap is left to wrap your wrist one final time.

    • 9

Drape the wrap over your hand to the wrist, then wrap around your wrist and secure with the Velcro.
