How to Install a Heavy Bag

Heavy bags can be used for training in both boxing and martial arts. The key to hanging a heavy bag is to make sure the beam or stud you use is sturdy enough to handle the weight.

  1. Location

    • Find an area, preferably in your basement or a spare room, to hang your heavy bag. It is best to hang the bag in the center of the room away from any walls or furniture, according to etup.org.

    Identification

    • You will need to have a drill and eye hook for installing your heavy bag. Make sure the drill bit you use is slightly smaller than the eye hook.

    Considerations

    • You will need to measure the length of your heavy bag along with the swivel chain to determine how low the bag will hang. It is best to let the bag hang no lower than belt high, as most punches you practice will be above this level.

    Instructions

    • After installing the eye hook, loop the S-hook at the top of the swivel chain through the eye hook. Stand on a chair, and have someone help you lift the heavy bag so you can loop the four S-hooks through the four rings on top of the heavy bag.
