Locate a boxing gym or training program in your local community. Many times these classes are available at local YMCA chapters, gyms or community fitness centers, while others are privately operated. You can look in the phone book or on the Internet to find a local boxing gym or coach.

Talk to the coach or boxing program coordinator to see which boxing classes suit you best. Many programs offer youth training classes, or novice, intermediate and advanced classes depending on your skill and fitness level. Inquire about equipment that you'll need, such as protective head and groin gear, mouth-piece, gloves and shoes. Some gyms offer equipment to use or rent, while other facilities may require you to purchase your own.

Sign up for the class. You may have to sign an injury liability waiver along with signing up for the training program. This will ensure that you know the risks involved with boxing and prevent you from filing a lawsuit in case you get injured. You may also be allowed to pay for the class weekly, monthly, or annually. Typically, annual packages are offered at most gyms and are cheaper in the long-run. Some packages may also include 24-hour access to the gym and the use of boxing equipment.
