How to Improve Batting in Cricket

Cricket is a sport similar to baseball in which a batter uses a bat to hit pitched ball and players earn runs by running around bases to score a point. A cricket bat is wider and flatter than a baseball bat. Different types of swings include a cut, drive, hook and pull. Keeping your eyes level, your stance solid and using your shoulders to guide your swing will help you improve your batting in cricket.

Instructions

    • 1

Grip the bat with both hands together at the handle. Make sure that your grip is neither too loose nor too tight. The correct grip does not restrict you in playing any shot.

    • 2

Set yourself in a solid batting stance by spreading your legs shoulder- width apart with your weight evenly distributed between both feet. Bend your knees slightly and keep your weight off your heels. Point your front shoulder towards the bowler and keep a loose elbow. The bat should be grounded between your feet awaiting the bowl.

    • 3

Keep you eyes on the ball. Watch the ball as it leaves the bowler's hand. Good hand-eye coordination is key in your reaction time.

    • 4

Use your shoulders to guide your swing. Turn your shoulders toward the ball naturally, enabling the rest of your body to follow.

    • 5

Try to identify the shiny or rough side of the ball when it is bowled. This helps in determining how much spin is on the ball or which direction it will break.

    • 6

Lift your front foot and take a half step forward when the ball is bowled to you. Use your hips to drive the ball as you swing.
