How to Measure a Waist for Fencing Knickers

Whether cotton or stretch synthetic, well-fitting knickers are an important part of the fencing uniform. Knicker size should allow for the stretching, lunging and bending movements required in fencing, while still maintaining a good fit at starting position. When measuring your waist for fitting fencing knickers, be sure to use a good tape measure. Uniform manufacturers tend to size fencing knickers in two-inch increments, usually in even numbers. Also, if you are purchasing cotton knickers or prefer a looser fit, try moving up two sizes for more room.

Instructions

    • 1

Use the tape measure and measure your waist around its narrowest point, usually just above the hip.

    • 2

Measure your inseam. Start at the crotch and measure down to two inches below the knee.

    • 3

Compare your measurements with the sizes available from the manufacturer to determine the size you will need. If your waist is between sizes, move up to the next highest size. For instance, if you are a 30-1/2, choose size 32.
