How to Create Torque When Throwing a Football
In American football, the use of proper mechanics when throwing a football can mean the difference between success and failure for a passer. You can increase the distance and accuracy of a pass by throwing the ball in such a way that it spirals while it is in flight. In addition, rotating your upper body while throwing the ball will apply an added amount of torque to the motion of your throw, giving you an extra amount of power.

1
Stand with your feet firmly planted and your left shoulder pointed in the direction you wish to throw. Hold the football in your hand with your fingers positioned along its laces.
-
2
Take a step toward your target with your left foot and rapidly rotate the trunk of your torso counterclockwise, throwing your left arm behind you for added leverage.
-
3
Begin your throwing motion with your right arm, and extend it outward as you complete your trunk rotation. To achieve the most amount of torque, follow through with your throwing arm by bringing it all the way across your body.
