How to Be a Football Mascot
-
1
Learn about the game of football. As a mascot for a football team you will need to know the ins and outs of the game. Being well-versed in the rules will allow you to properly react in any scenario. For example, you do not want to start cheering if your team's quarterback throws an interception.
-
2
Practice cheerleading or acrobatics. These two activities will help you prepare for the physical challenges of being a mascot. Flexibility, endurance and a high energy level are necessary requirements for all football mascots.
-
3
Take mascot training classes. The instructors usually tour the country and offer at least one class in each state at different times throughout the year. Searching the Internet for mascot training classes will yield a variety of options.
-
4
Get real-life experience as a football mascot as soon as possible. Talk to the head of your high school or college and ask if a mascot position is available. If there is no mascot, try to see if there are funds they could allocate toward getting a mascot outfit. Getting practice in front of people at games is the only way to move on to become the mascot in higher levels of football.
