How to Install a Neck Roll on Shoulder Pads

When you look at a football uniform, the helmet and jersey are the most distinguishing features. Shoulder pads and neck rolls protect players from serious spinal injuries. Although not as prominent at first glance, the neck roll provides support to the player's neck and shoulder region. The neck roll pad is attached to the shoulder pads; this helps provide stabilization during head to head contact.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the shoulder pads on a level surface. Take the neck roll and align the pre-cut holes on the neck roll to the brass eyelets on the shoulder pads.

    • 2

Circle the holes with the marker so they match up to the brass eyelets. This will help you make sure you line the holes up correctly for the neck roll to fit properly. Remove the neck roll from the shoulder pads.

    • 3

Drill holes in the shoulder pads where the marks were made. Drill the holes about 1 /2 inch deep in the pads. In some cases, the shoulders may come already pre-drilled with holes.

Place the neck roll back on the shoulder pads and align the holes together once again, then insert the screws. Use the screwdriver to tighten the screws. Move the neck roll around to make sure there is little to no movement on the shoulder pads to give maximum protection.
