How to Attach a Neck Roll

Neck rolls are an important part of a football uniform. They are not visible like shoulder pads and helmets, but are equally important for protecting players from serious injuries. Without a neck roll, a football players head can snap back during contact, causing whiplash or spinal injury. A neck roll attaches to the shoulder pads and supports a football player's neck and head by stabilizing them during contact.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay your football shoulder pads on a flat surface. Align the holes on your neck roll with the eyelets on the shoulder pads.

    • 2

Attach the neck roll to the shoulder pads. Neck rolls have three sets of laces. Tie each set of laces to secure the right shoulder, left shoulder and the back of your pads to the neck roll.

    • 3

Move the neck roll back and forth to make sure it does not move. The neck roll must securely fit on the shoulder pads, so re-tighten the laces if they are loose.

Try on your pads. Lace and tighten your shoulder pads to test the stability of your neck roll. Regularly adjust your neck roll as the laces loosen.
