Swansea must go all out in the next transfer window, regardless of the league they are in
The current coronavirus lockdown has thrown everything into question; the sporting world has felt the full brunt of it with seasons postponed, as debates over whether or not seasons will be continued or merely voided rage on.
For those in the Championship, it could not have come at a worse time as some clubs continue to struggle with inflated wage bills. But, that hasn’t stopped rumours of potential transfers doing the rounds.
Welsh side Swansea City did some good business in January, bringing in Liverpool starlet Rhian Brewster. The striker has already scored four goals in 11 appearances, but regardless of whether or not the Swans finish in the top six this season – they are currently 14/5 with superfreetips to do so and 66/5 to earn promotion – they still need to find that extra something in order to earn promotion. So just who could be on boss Steve Cooper’s radar?
Goalkeeper
Freddie Woodman has been a huge hit at the Liberty Stadium since arriving last summer with the Newcastle United loanee establishing himself as Cooper’s number one. It’s unclear where Woodman’s future lies, but Newcastle boss Steve Bruce recently spoke of his hope that the ‘keeper doesn’t spend his career on the sidelines, which could suggest that Bruce feels Woodman’s future lies elsewhere.
Cooper has long announced his desire to keep the 23-year-old at the club which could work in Swansea’s favour.
Winger
Cooper has had a plethora of wingers at his disposal this season, though none will be as frustrated as Aldo Kalulu who had just started putting in some impressive performances before the pandemic took hold. The winger’s loan deal can be made permanent at the end of the season, but whether Cooper will take advantage of that remains to be seen.
Nathan Dyer and Wayne Routledge are both out of contract at the end of the season and their respective ages of 32 and 35 means Cooper may look elsewhere. Another winger – one with pace – is a must following the departure of Daniel James.

Striker
Cooper brought in Liverpool starlet Rhian Brewster in January who has impressed greatly. But, it is still not clear cut whether or not Reds boss Jurgen Klopp will send the striker out on loan again – particularly if the Swans fail to achieve promotion. Brewster’s arrival helped to offset the loss of Bournemouth loanee Sam Surridge who was recalled in the January transfer window.
Kalulu and Andre Ayew can both play as a striker, but neither are natural centre forwards, despite the latter scoring 14 goals so far. Cooper must delve into the transfer market for a striker, regardless of promotion or not.
