League One Left Winger of the Season: Scunthorpe’s Josh Morris

Morris has thrived on the left – scunthorpetelegraph.co.uk

When Graham Alexander signed Josh Morris from Bradford, he was more enthused in his praise than most managers would be after a signing.

Alexander had won League Two promotion with Morris at Fleetwood in 2014, via a play-off final victory over Burton Albion. Reflecting on their time working together, Alexander said the wide man was always one of the first into training and last out. He praised the 24-year-old’s work rate and dedication, as well as the more technical aspects of his game.

Morris has proven this season that he knows when to shift the ball and when to burst forward into the space, making him a hard player to second-guess. His performance against Southend earlier in the season is described by many as one of the most complete they have ever seen from a Scunthorpe player.

Perhaps in open play, Morris has not been so effective since moved to a more central role, a change which has coincided with a lack of width for the Iron. However, his record when played on the left in the first half of the season is enough for him to get into The Football Lab’s Team of the Season. Another play-off promotion under Alexander could be on the cards.
