League Two Left Winger of the Season: Carlisle’s Nicky Adams
“Career highlights? Where do you start!” the tongue-in-cheek utterings of Nicky Adams, when introducing himself to his new teammates and Carlisle United’s YouTube channel on a pre-season tour.
More recently, his career highlights have involved League Two promotions with Bury and Northampton. It is arguable that he had done well enough with those teams to earn a move to a League One club this summer, but a combination of big wages and personal convenience lured him to Carlisle.
Adams’ obvious confidence made him one of the inspirational figures behind the unbeaten run with which the Cumbrians started this campaign. He is the type of player who always wants to get on the ball, whether or not his side have it.
He was one of League Two’s top assisters early in the season and, even in this woeful seven match goalless streak, he has been one of the few to show some hunger and fight.
Adams picked up a hamstring injury against Crewe on Saturday. The Cumbrians will miss his ability on the field as much as his belief and charisma.
