Liverpool must use Lallana properly

Lallana signs new deal – dailystar.co.uk
Adam Lallana has signed a new long-term contract at Liverpool, but just as important as him staying at Anfield, is him staying in the right position.
In the 15 matches in which the Southampton academy graduate has played in central midfield, the results tell their own story. The Reds have picked up 2.2 points per game (a 24% improvement on their overall return), scoring 40 goals (50% improvement), conceding 16 (20%). In that position, Lallana himself has scored seven goals and provided seven assists, with WhoScored indicating a significant improvement in individual performance levels, as opposed to when playing as part of the front three.
His change of position was partially caused by Philipe Coutinho’s injury and later Sadio Mane’s exit for the African Cup of Nations and the duo’s absence did make Liverpool a weaker team. Performances on the right show Lallana does not have the raw pace and predatory ruthlessness of Mane. His closer resemblance to Coutinho has, perhaps, allowed him to put in one or two good performances on the left against the top teams.
However, his contribution is far greater in central midfield. When given a run of games there, few players in the division look more creative. His impressive footwork and speed of thought in tight areas allows him to unlock games and open space for those in front of him.
He must stay in that role, regardless of the availability of other players. When a member of the attacking trio including Roberto Firmino is ruled out of contention, Jurgen Klopp must find similar players who allow his midfield maestro to stay in the same role. Tactical consistency is required for both Lallana and Liverpool.
