Youth Football Drills – 4th Quarter Conditioning
Here is one of the youth football drills I used when I was coaching a team of boys 9-10yrs old. We not only practiced hard but the boys “loved” my end of practice “4th quarter” conditioning.
4th Quarter Conditioning
- Divide the team in 1/2.
- First line goes into the down position and starts on the movement of the ball.
- One coach snaps the ball and the other coach stands 10 yards back to start.
- Both lines sprint the 10yards and back, second is 20yards, up to 40yards.
- For any false start the coach would tack 5 yards and 10 up downs.
At the start of the season the boys did a lot of up downs and sprints, but as the season progressed they were not causing any false starts and they really excelled in the 4th quarter!
Hoop Drill
This is another conditioning and agility drill to use.
Place two small, medium, or large Hula Hoops (tires can also be used) on the ground about one foot apart. Then have your lineman and skill players run around the hoops in a figure eight pattern.
This drill increase speed and agility by forcing players to run at an angle that their body is not accustomed to. By increasing repetitions, muscle memory will occur.
