Instructions

1
Perform your takeaway as normal. When you reach the midpoint of the backswing, pause and look at the position of your club. At this point the shaft of the club must be horizontal to the ground, and the club must be toe up at a 12 o'clock position. This position is square and means the club is in the ideal place, ready for the top of the backswing.
-
2
As you continue to rotate back, make sure that your hips, shoulders and body move back as one unit, and gradually shift your weight onto your back foot. When you approach the top of the backswing, allow your right arm to bend.
-
3
Your hips must complete their rotation before the shoulders. Continue to shift your weight and rotate your shoulders until your back is facing the target. This will place you in the ideal position for setting the club at the top of the backswing.
-
4
Pause at the top of the backswing to set the club. Check that the shaft of the club is parallel to the ground and that it is pointing toward your target. The club face must be toe down to ensure a square position at impact, and 80 percent of your weight must be on your back foot. Your left shoulder should be almost where your right shoulder was at address. Now that you have set the club, continue into the downswing and through impact.
