How to Drill a Drive

In golf, there isn't much better than blasting a big drive -- the feeling's unmistakable. Players on the Professional Golf Association Tour, such as Ricky Fowler and Bubba Watson, have changed the complexion of the game by consistently driving the ball over 300 yards. Longer drives mean shorter approach shots and more room for error in other areas of the game. But driving the ball farther won't just turn heads; it will boost your confidence and lower your score.

Instructions

    • 1

Stretch before approaching the tee box for your drive. Perform both upper body and lower body stretches. A powerful golf swing is largely based on flexibility.

    • 2

Tee the ball up so that half of it is above the top of your club face. Line the ball up at the front of your stance, parallel with your inside heel. Hitting long drives means making good contact with the ball.

    • 3

Bring a strong mental approach to your swing. Create a pre-shot routine that you follow before each drive. If anything interrupts your routine, step back and start again.

    • 4

Use good swing technique. Straighten your front arm on your back swing and emphasize good hip rotation throughout your front swing. Keep your head down and watch the ball through contact.
