How to Control Backspin
Instructions
-
-
1
Clean your club after each shot. When a club's grooves become clogged with dirt, the ball with have no backspin.
-
2
Ensure that you are using a good quality golf ball, such as soft-covered golf balls during play. Also, the better the condition of the ball, such as depth and quality of its dimples, the more backspin you can impart upon the ball depending on how hard you hit it.
-
3
Position the ball on the tee at a point slightly behind the point where the club will contact the ground. In addition, try to keep your hands slightly ahead of the club. The ball is then forced up along the grooves of the club creating backspin.
-
4
Adjust the accleration of your swing to alter the amount of backspin. To create the most amount of backspin, continue to accelerate your club as you swing and strike the ball. Decelerating your swing before striking the ball decreases the amount of backspin.
-
5
Practice properly striking the ball. When practicing, do not simply hit the golf balls as hard as you can, but focus on backspin. Focus on hitting the ball at the right place, at the right point in your swing arc with the right swing-through. Adjust ball position and swing speed, as necessary.
