When to Charge a Trojan T-875 Battery?
-
Charging Basics
-
Charge the battery after every use. Because lead acid batteries do not develop a memory, they do not need to be discharged completely before being charged. Prior to charging the battery, ensure that the charger is set to the correct charging voltage. Consult the documentation that came with the battery for the correct charging voltage.
Additional Considerations
-
Check the water level in the battery and add water as necessary. Ensure that all of the battery vent caps are securely tightened and never overcharge the battery, as this can damage it. Take note of the temperature when charging the battery. Add .028 volts per battery cell for every 10 degrees below 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Subtract .028 volts per battery for every 10 degrees above 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
Safety
-
Only charge the battery in a well-ventilated area that is free from sparks or open flame. Never charge a frozen battery, as this can lead to catastrophic battery failure and the potential for serious personal injury. Finally, avoid charging the battery in temperatures that exceed 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
