Founded in 1846, the city of Gilmer is home to the East Texas Yamboree, an annual celebration of Texan life complete with livestock shows, the coronation of a festival queen, rides and other fun attractions. Gilmer is in East Texas near the Louisiana border, and lies 73 miles west of Shreveport. The city opened Lake Gilmer in 2001, a man-made lake surrounded by nature trails and camping sites.       The on-premises driving range and practice putting green are lighted for night-time use. The course opened in 1955 and all guests must be accompanied by a country club member to play.

    • Located 15 miles southwest of Gilmer in Big Sandy, the Embassy Hills Golf Course has nine holes with 18 tees, totaling a par 70 stretching 5,785 yards long. A public course known for its scenery, Embassy Hills is closed on Sundays. The course hosts a weekly scramble and offers monthly membership fees. It opened in 1971.

    Wood Hollow Golf Club

    • Opened in 1991, the Wood Hollow Golf Club lies 17 miles southeast of Gilmer in the town of Longview. The 18-hole course is a par 70, standing at 6,102 yards long. The club also maintains a 20-tee driving range. Although a public course, Wood Hollow offers monthly membership for singles and for seniors who want to play frequently at discounted rates. With plenty of trees lining the fairways and water hazards, Wood Hollow caters to all skill groups.

    Holly Lake Ranch Golf Club

    • The Holly Lake Ranch Golf Club, opened in 1971, is 18 miles due west of Gilmer in the city of Holly Lake Ranch. An 18-hole course featuring Bermuda grass, the Holly Lake Ranch course is sanctioned by the PGA. It has a length of 6,705 yards and a par 72. Considered a private equity course, Holly Lake Ranch charges yearly membership dues to have access to the course and its 25-tee driving range.
