How to Extract a Broken Steel Shaft in Golf
If you have bent or broken the shaft on your steel golf club it may seem like the entire club is useless. If you remove the steel shaft, however, you can save the expensive club head. You can then simply replace the shaft and save yourself money. Extracting the shaft is a rather straightforward process that the average golfer can accomplish with the proper tools and a little knowledge.
Things You'll Need
- Rubber clamp
- Utility knife
- Propane torch
- Heat-resistant gloves
Instructions
-
-
1
Fix the shaft of the club in a rubber vice clamp so that the club head hangs out in the open.
-
2
Cut away the rubber layer covering the connection between the steel shaft and the club head with a utility knife.
-
3
Apply heat all the way around the connection between shaft and club head for approximately 20 to 30 seconds with a propane blowtorch. The appearance of some smoke will signal that the epoxy seal has been broken.
-
4
Hold the club head while wearing heat-resistant gloves, then pull and twist to remove it.
