How to Wash Shin Guard Socks

Washing shin guard socks is an easy task once you learn how to do it. The main objective is that you thoroughly clean the shin guard socks, but you also want to be careful not to shrink them. If you shrink them, it will be difficult to pull the socks over your shin guards. Shin guard socks are common to both hockey and soccer especially, but there are occasionally differences in the materials that make up the socks.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the washer on to the delicate cycle. Anything higher than the delicate cycle can eventually cause holes or tears in the shin guard socks. Use cold water instead of hot water throughout the entire cycle to help prevent shrinking when the shin guard socks dry.

    • 2

Pour approximately 1/4 cup of liquid or powder detergent into the washer for a pair to several pairs of shin guard socks. If you have a large volume of shin guard socks, refer to the instructions on the bottle of laundry detergent to ascertain the proper amount of detergent to use.

    • 3

Place the shin guard socks into the washer and shut the door. The washer should automatically run its course and notify you with a loud sound such as a buzzer that the shin guard socks are finished washing.

Dry the shin guard socks. Some people will use a dryer to dry the shin guard socks, but it is better to dry them outside on a clothesline because this keeps you from shrinking the shin guard socks. Especially if the socks are of a wool material, it is easy to accidentally shrink the socks. If you must use a dryer, only dry the shin guard socks for approximately 10 to 15 minutes in the dryer and then let them air dry until they are dry.
