How to Break in a Hockey Goalie Glove Fast

The glove is one of the most important pieces of equipment that a goalie has. Without it, he or she will not be able to make saves and control the puck. Breaking one in is fairly simple, especially when compared to the blocker, if a few important steps are followed. This hasn't always been the case. Older models of hockey gloves were stiff and more rigid when first purchased. There are also alternatives to breaking in new gloves.

Instructions

  1. Simple Way to Break In Glove

    • 1

Take your glove outside if applicable or find a place that has a similar temperature to the playing surface of a hockey rink. This will allow you to break in the glove in an atmosphere similar to where it will be used.

    • 2

Slide your hand all the way into the glove.

    • 3

Squeeze your hand together and close the glove. Hold it for a second and open it back up. Repeat this process a few hundred times. While this may sound like a lot, it is fewer repetitions than used to be need with older models.

    Using a Softball

    • 4

Place a softball in the palm of your glove. You can use a baseball, but a softball is better due to its larger size.

    • 5

Compress the glove around the softball as if it were trying to catch it. Use the spare skate lace and wrap it around the glove and then tie it.

    • 6

Let it stand for several hours before you untie it.
