Preparing for a hockey game or any other sport can produce nervous feelings and nausea at times. Even if you've played a million games, before every game, there's always nervousness and fear building up inside. It's important to properly prepare for a game before the day of the event or game. Properly preparing for the game will ensure confidence and you'll feel ready to play to your fullest potential.

      Drink lots of water. Days before the game, be sure to drink plenty of water to remain hydrated. Sports drinks can also be consumed to ensure that your body gets replenished of water.

      Get plenty of rest. To properly perform during a game, your body needs a lot of rest so that you'll have enough energy and stamina to perform to the best of your ability. Not getting enough rest may result in sluggish performance and fatigue.

      Eat a balanced diet. The food that you choose to eat determines the energy that you'll have to perform better in the game. Certain foods have nutrients that may enhance brain and physical function during the game.

      Warm-up before the game. Take time out to warm-up your muscles. If your muscles aren't properly stretched and warmed up, you could run the risk of pulling a muscle and having to forfeit the game. Make sure to practice a few days before the game as well to help with your technique. You don't want to get rusty before the game by failing to practice your techniques.

      Keep your body temperature down. Again, drink lots of water and try not to get too overly excited. Put on all of your hockey gear. Make sure you have your shin pads, your safety helmet and your long socks.

      Stay calm before the game. Doing meditation or another calming exercise may help to reduce anxiety or nervousness. Some teams have motivational speakers or a team ritual. Most teams, however, try to get other teammates hyped before the game. Only you know what method is right for you.
