Scooter Hockey Objectives
-
Teams
-
After dividing the players into equal teams, have one team distinguished with jerseys or some other marker. All players that are not in play must be out of the boundary area, such as outside the large white rectangle of a volleyball court. Each team has 5 or 6 players active in the game at one time. There can be a goalie for each team or you can play without goalies. Each team is trying to use a hockey stick and a scooter to hit the ball into the opponent's goal zone without it being intercepted. This will result in a point scored. Have each game last two minutes or until a team scores, and then switch players so every team member gets a chance to play.
Puck Control
-
Scooter hockey will test the dribbling and ball control of the players. A player must be able to dribble the ball with their hockey stick while simultaneously moving their scooter towards the opponent's goal or towards another player on their team.
Coordination
-
This game also uses hand-to-eye coordination. This is demonstrated by the ability of a player passing the ball to another player or into the goal.
Fitness
-
You will be implementing aerobic and anaerobic fitness during this game. It helps to increase cardiovascular fitness and targets the leg muscles as they maneuver and move their bodies on the scooter.
