1
Start with a fiberglass mask. Fiberglass masks accept paint and other color mediums fairly well, whereas most other mask materials do not.
-
2
Remove your mask grill and any screws from the mask. Applying paint to metal or chrome objects could cause them to rust and corrode; therefore, taking them out of the mask is the safest bet. You may want to add a base color by painting the entire mask first and allowing it to dry before adding details in marker and other paint.
-
3
Apply designs to the mask using a marker or paint if you are confident in your drawing skills. Let your creativity run wild and draw whatever you desire. Flames are a popular look, as well as an extreme version of the team’s mascot.
-
4
Place stickers on the mask. Stickers add design and flair to masks that markers and paints often cannot. Sticker options include sports teams, sayings and individual letters that spell out a name or phrase.
-
5
Airbrush your mask. Airbrushing provides the most even and professional-looking design to goalie masks. However, this art can take some time to master and achieve the look you desire.
-
6
Spray a clear coat over your mask when it is completely dry. A clear coat will protect your design and add a bit of shine.
