How to Steam New Hockey Skates

New hockey skates may be uncomfortable the first time you wear them. This doesn't necessarily mean that the skates aren't the right size. The skates may simply not mold to your feet as they should. Many hockey stores will steam skates for a small fee. Save money and steam your new hockey skates yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine what material your skates are made from. If they are made of leather, you will need to use a dry-heat source. If your skates are "waterproof," you can steam them.

    • 2

Plug in a blow dryer or hand-held steamer, depending on the material.

    • 3

Place the nozzle of the blow dryer or steamer over the openings of your hockey skates. The nozzle should be roughly 1/2 to 1 inch above the openings.

    • 4

Allow hot air or steam to enter into the skates for roughly 5 to 10 minutes.

    • 5

Place your skates on, with blade guards in place. Walk around with the skates on your feet for about an hour. This will help mold the hockey skates to your feet.
