How to Buy Ice Hockey Socks

Hockey socks start at the ankles and go all the way up to the thighs. They're designed to keep your feet and legs warm over the ice and also add an extra layer of protection for your skin. Ice hockey socks go over shin guards. The socks are then attached to undershorts with Velcro, garters or kept in place with hockey tape.

Instructions

    • 1

Try to buy new rather than used hockey socks. Hockey, like most sports, is a sweaty sport and you don't want to wear something someone else sweat in.

    • 2

Decide whether you want your ice hockey socks to be held up with garters, Velcro or with hockey tape. This is a personal preference and one is not better than the other.

    • 3

Choose the right color that goes with your hockey gear for games. If you have a child playing hockey, check and see if hockey socks are included as part of the uniform or if you need to buy your own pairs.

    • 4

Consider buying multiple pairs of ice hockey socks, so you always have a clean set for each practice and game. Your team mates will thank you.

    • 5

Wear only one pair of socks at a time. Wearing more can make your skate fit too snugly and cause blisters and sores.

    • 6

Talk to your coach to see if they have any recommendations of ice hockey socks or of stores in your area that sell ice hockey socks.
