1
Contact your local municipality and ask about local electrical codes. Make sure your lighting equipment complies with local regulations.
-
2
Measure the perimeter of your pond hockey surface with a tape measure. Use these dimensions to draw up a lighting plan that will provide adequate lighting for the pond hockey playing area. Plan to set up one halogen floodlight and stand about every 40 feet along the length of the pond. Halogen floodlights should be placed on each side in a symmetrical manner. Find out the extension cord lengths you’ll need to connect each floodlight to a portable electric generator situated about 30 feet away from the pond.
-
3
Bring the portable electric generator, halogen floodlights, light stands and extension cords to the pond hockey rink.
-
4
Place the portable electric generator about 30 feet away from the pond in a level area.
-
5
Set up the halogen floodlights and stands. Have a friend help if necessary. Make sure to accurately measure the distance between floodlights. Even lighting on both sides helps to diminish shadows.
-
6
Use extension cords to connect the halogen floodlights to the portable electric generator. If conditions are very wet, protect all electrical cable connections by wrapping black electrical tape to cover the plug connections.
-
7
Turn on the portable electric generator to begin producing electricity for the halogen floodlights. Turn on the halogen floodlights to shine light on your pond hockey playing surface.
