How to Dress for Lacrosse Exercise

Whether you're attending your first lacrosse tryout, taking part in a practice with your team or just want to pass the ball around at the park with a few friends, dressing correctly for the sport is important. During informal exercises and practices, you don't have to wear the official attire that is required during games, but dressing in a specific way will help keep you flexible, protected and ready for action.

Instructions

    • 1

Wear such protective gear as a mouth guard, helmet, gloves, elbow pads, shoulder pads and an athletic supporter and cup. The protective gear you choose to wear depends on the type of practice or exercise you are going to do. If you're attending a vigorous tryout, wearing all the protective gear you'd wear during a game is ideal. If you're playing the sport informally with a friend, and aren't at risk of body contact, wearing all the gear becomes less crucial.

Dress in a T-shirt and shorts for practices or informal exercises. Choose lightweight, breathable clothing that doesn't restrict your movement and helps keep you cool and dry. Some coaches might require you to wear a specific jersey for structured practices. Depending on the level of play and the team, you may have to wear practice jerseys. Unless otherwise specified, you can wear standard athletic shorts during practices instead of your uniform shorts.

Use comfortable running shoes that you can lace up tightly. The shoes should not only support your ankles during sharp turns but also the soles of your feet as you run. Running shoes are ideal for box lacrosse, which takes place indoors, but for field lacrosse, which takes place outdoors, football or soccer cleats are necessary to provide traction in the grass and mud.
