Instructions

    • 1

Call your city government to inquire about requirements for starting a new sports league. Ask about fees, available courts and liability requirements.

    • 2

Gather interest in your dodgeball league. Design flyers on your computer. Print them out and hang them in prominent locations around town, such as at recreation centers or schools. Include your contact information.

    • 3

Record details for each person that expresses interest in joining your dodgeball league, such as name, telephone number and email address.

    • 4

Announce a meeting to go over the details with those interested in participating. Contact each person on your list to let them know when and where you will be meeting.

    • 5

Design and print information to distribute at the meeting. Include an information sheet that outlines registration requirements, fees and locations where practices and games will be held. Provide attendees with a registration form as well.

    • 6

Discuss the league goals, such as your desired number of teams and players, as well as how quickly you wish to build your program. Talk about fees, including those your players will pay for their uniforms, registration and participation. Ask for additional suggestions from those in attendance.

    • 7

Choose coaches toward the end of the meeting. Select coaches with prior dodgeball or coaching experience. Strong leadership skills might also help you choose the best coaches for your league. Select an appropriate number of coaches depending on how many people wish to sign up for the league. There are six players per team on the court at one time, but a team can have up to four substitute players, so each coach will have 10 players. Assign assistant coaches, if necessary.

    • 8

Require interested individuals to fill out their registration form and pay any fees, if applicable.

    • 9

Create a practice and game schedule based on how many teams you foresee having join your league and how many courts you have available to you. A typical sports team will practice once or twice per week, and play one game against other teams. Vary your practice and games so each team gets adequate practice time. For example, one team might practice on Mondays and Wednesdays and play games on Saturday mornings, while another team might practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays and play games on Saturday afternoons.

    • 10

Assign each coach their players as you receive registration information.

    • 11

Ask each coach to contact his players to discuss practice and game information.
