How to Spot Backflips

A backflip is an aerial maneuver where a person leaps in the air and performs a vertical rotation before landing on the ground. Backflips are a regular part of gymnastics routines or extreme sports such as snowboarding, freestyle BMX or motorcross. A backflip takes time and practice to perfect. Having a spotter during the learning stage reduces the risk that you will injure yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Stand to the side of the person performing the backflip. Position your legs shoulder width apart and bend your knees.

    • 2

Place one hand above the back of the knees of the person performing the backflip. Place the other hand in the center of her back.

    • 3

Keep the hand that is on her back firm, in order to support and keep her from falling during the trick. Use your other hand behind her hamstrings to push her legs upward to help her to rotate as she flips.
