Corporate Marketing Activities
-
Companies strive to increase market share through promotional activities. By combining the use of a mascot with other marketing initiatives, a company is able to push its business to the next level. Entire advertising campaigns can be centered around a mascot's persona and can be seen using products or entering social situations with the product. Mascots used for corporate advertisement should possess a strong personality along with value system that is reflective of the corporate entity.
Sports Mascots
-
The personality selected to be a sports mascot should be a skilled performer able to rouse the fans to support the team even while trailing their opponents. A 'spotter' who acts as the liaison between the fans and the mascot usually accompanies a sports mascot. The mascot's performance should be entertaining, able to rouse people into supporting the team. The personality selected needs to be confident with the ability to perform before large crowds. In addition to attending community events, sports mascots perform before the opening of the game and during halftime sessions and perform entertainment routines during timeouts and between innings. Skilled sports mascots are able to attract new corporate sponsors for sporting events thus generating revenue for the team.
School Mascots
-
School mascot generates a lot of publicity for the school. The mascots are worthy representatives of the school at important community functions such as parades, public festivals and at special outreach activities. Typically, many schools adopt an animal as the school mascot because animals intrigue children. Bears, lions, falcons and eagles are just a few of the common animals adopted as school mascots. Mascots play an important role in unifying students with diverse cultures and creeds. The mascots are a rallying point for them at sporting events involving the school team. School mascots work together with cheerleading crews to motivate the school team to victory.
Military Mascots
-
Military groups in the world have made use of mascots to rally support and give an identifiable image for soldiers and citizens. The Royal Regiment of Wales appoints a goat as a ranking soldier and brings him to rallies. Different regiments of the British military have used Irish Wolfhounds, ponies, horses and ferrets as their mascots by showing the mascots in ceremonies. In Norway, an Emperor Penguin is used as the military's mascot and attends official functions when he is not in his home at the Edinburgh zoo.
