How to Make a Match Schedule

When planning a schedule for a league, or for multiple leagues all sharing the same facility, an organized method of planning out the matches is essential. Whether you are looking to schedule matches for bowlers on lanes in an alley, or soccer teams on the local playing fields, a grid-based scheduling method will ensure every team gets to play its games without any venue being double booked.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a grid on a poster board or piece of paper in pencil, using a straight edge. Create a column for each day you have available for games, and then add one additional column. Make a row for each time slot available on those days, and then add another row.

    • 2

Write the dates that the playing area is available in the top row, starting with the second column from the left.

    • 3

Write the time slots in the first column from the left, starting with the second row from the top.

    • 4

Fill the grid with the different matches. Make sure no team or competitor is scheduled for twice in one day or two days in a row, depending on your league's conventions.
