How to Camouflage a Layout Boat
Layout boats are used by duck and waterfowl hunters to stealthily move about the water. Layout boat hunters use the boat to conceal themselves, lying in wait until a target approaches. Often, layout boat hunters will bring along duck decoys to attract other ducks. The boats themselves can be small, sized only for a single hunter, or larger and capable of accommodating several people. Camouflaging the boat adds another layer of stealth that serves the hunter well.

Camouflage Sheeting
-
1
Cover the boat with plastic sheeting such as Visqueen.
-
2
Cut a hole around the seat where you'll be sitting. The hole will allow you to duck down and hide under the sheet, but spring up when getting into shooting position.
-
3
Secure the excess folds of the sheeting to the side of the boat using metal clamps.
Camouflage Paint
-
4
Apply a coat of primer to the exterior of the boat.
-
5
Put down a primer coat of paint, using a dim, dark green, blue or grey color to match the water.
-
6
Wait for the paint to dry. When it has dried, apply paint in a camouflage pattern using a camouflage stencil.
