How to Get an Inline Sponsorship

For serious athletes, there are many things that might require purchasing that individuals simply cannot afford for themselves. For example, while it is true that equipment and gear for a sport such as inline skating is minimal compared to other sports, it can still get quite costly. Additionally, an inline skater may not be able to afford fees for participating in athletic competitions, traveling costs to get to competitions and membership fees for organizations. This is where sponsorships come in. As an amateur or professional inline skater, you can gain sponsors who will help pay for you to practice, compete, travel and become more involved with the sport.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide whom you want to have as your sponsor for inline skating. Local businesses tend to make great sponsors because they benefit from advertising and can give more substantial contributions than individuals generally can or are willing to do. Some local businesses that may be interested in sponsoring you for inline skating include skate shops, equipment retailers and skate parks.

Check with the businesses you choose about how to apply for sponsorship. Some businesses have athletic sponsorship programs in place already, which you can learn about through their websites or through contacting the companies directly. Always follow specific guidelines for applying, if any are given.

    • 3

Write a sponsorship letter to businesses that do not provide specific applications. Your letter should describe your experience level in inline skating, including any competitions you've participated in or won and any organizations to which you belong. Your letter also should explain how you will benefit the business, such as by including their logo on your gear or by passing out promotional materials for the business at events and competitions.

    • 4

Send a video along with your sponsorship letter or application. The video should include you talking to the business about your inline skating experience, as well as some shots of you in action to demonstrate your skill level. You're more likely to receive sponsorships if you appear friendly and outgoing in the video, because those are traits the business is seeking in its own marketing efforts.
