How to Start Aggressive Inline Skating

Aggressive skating is the most acrobatic form of inline skating. Aggressive skaters do a wide variety of tricks, including grabs, grinds, flips and spins. In contrast to recreational rollerblading, aggressive skating has roots in the half-pipe, the skate park and the street. This combination of athleticism and expression makes aggressive skating a great activity for adventurous skaters.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a pair of skates. Most aggressive skates have either a hard or soft shell. Both types are also much heavier than traditional rollerblades. Visit a local skate shop to try some on and get an expert's opinion on fit.

    • 2

Get the right safety gear. A helmet and pads are good for all kinds of skating, but they're especially important for aggressive skating, which is the most dangerous.

    • 3

Practice basic skating on a smooth, even surface. Before you can perform tricks, you must be comfortable moving on wheels. Learn to move backwards and forwards, and practice stopping.

    • 4

Perform small jumps to become comfortable on your skates in the air. Focus on staying balanced in the air and executing a steady landing.

    • 5

Throw some modest tricks into your practice sessions. Grinds and 180s are the best place to start--they lay the foundation for harder tricks to come.

    • 6

Go out for a session at your local skate park. This will give you experience on small ramps and pipes. Be sure to bring all of your safety gear and wear it.

    • 7

Start an aggressive skating group in your area. The support and encouragement you get from fellow skaters will help you develop your skills and gain experience.
