How to Spin on Inline Skates

Learning how to spin on in-line skates will add a new dimension to your skating repertoire. Having a lot of experience on skates will make this task much easier, but if you're just learning to skate, this will take a bit longer to master. If you're experienced, this trick should take about a week to perfect. Having no previous experience will hinder progress, so it could take up to a month to get the balance and skill needed to perform it flawlessly.

Instructions

  1. Practicing and Performing

    • 1

Put on your skates and get used to skating in smaller circles. This will teach your body how to react in cornering situations.

    • 2

Slowly skate forward and try to stop yourself by pointing your toes outward, which will create a slow spin and eventual turnaround. Skating and stopping using the toe-outward method will teach the body the movement needed for the spin.

    • 3

Standing still, bend your knees slightly, have your head in front of your knees to remain balanced, and point your toes outward, so if you look down you could almost draw a straight line from blade to blade on both feet.

    • 4

Performing the the proper technique, start to push your hips in one direction and move your heels together and apart, which will increase speed. Doing this while standing still will teach you the spin. Once mastered, you can perform this while skating into the trick with speed.
