Directions for a Trick Shot in Pool

Playing pool is a lot more fun when you know a few trick shots. You can expect to play hours of pool before you truly master most trick shots. However, a minimal amount of practice is needed to conquer the Alternative Jump Shot. This shot involves hitting a ball in a difficult position without attempting a jump shot. The shot can be played on any pool table.

Instructions

    • 1

Place any three balls on the back cushion, they must be touchng the cushion. Align the first two so that they are touching each other side by side. Now place the third ball so that it is resting on top of the first two. It should remain balanced as it is resting on the back cushion. The object of the trick shot is to make contact with the ball on the top without playing a traditional jump shot.

    • 2

Line the cue ball on the base line/ break spot, aiming the cue to the center of ball, therefore applying no spin. Strike the ball at a medium pace, aiming the shot to hit the middle of the three balls.

    • 3

Tap the table relatively hard with your strongest hand before the cue ball makes contact with the pack and is still in motion. This will cause the ball placed on top of the two others to fall and split the three ball pack. The cue ball (if aimed accurately) should strike the top ball first and therefore achieve the objective.

To develop the trick, you may wish to add more balls adjacent to one another, or arrange the pack in an order which makes it more difficult to initially hit the ball that is on top. Striking the cue ball harder also tests reactions by challenging you to tap the table quicker.
