For many, however, snooker is simply an enjoyable hobby that can be shared with friends and family. The game can be made more enjoyable if individual skills are perfected.

  1. Hitting Straight

    • Check if you are cueing straight by placing the white ball on the brown spot and hitting it in a straight line against the top cushion. When the ball comes back, it should touch the tip of the cue if your action is straight. Adjust the position of the butt of the cue and focus on a straight follow-through to produce straighter shots.

    Watching the Ball

    • Always pot with confidence by focusing on the object ball. Many amateur players watch the cue ball or the tip of their cue when lining up for a shot and this distracts them from their actual objective. Focus on the exact spot where you want the cue ball to hit the object ball. This improves your understanding of potting angles and should also boost your mental strength.

    Potting the Ball

    • Avoid the temptation to get straight behind the cue ball and play your shot. Instead, walk around the table and check the best point of contact on the object ball. If you are going to attempt a pot, that spot will be in a direct line with the object ball and the pocket. This helps you line up pots in the perfect position.
