How to Align Ski Boots

You can avoid injury and get the most out of your ski equipment by properly aligning your ski boots into your ski bindings. Most ski shops will align and mount your bindings at the time of purchase -- a process that includes aligning the boots. But once you're on the slopes, you should know how to align and secure your boots into your skis.

Instructions

  1. Alignment

    • 1

Lay your skis flat on the snow. Your skis should be facing the same direction, with the right and left skis on the appropriate sides, if required for your model of ski. Bindings may be mounted on your skis in the center, slightly forward or slightly rear. You will align your ski boots with your bindings the same way, regardless of where they sit on your skis.

    • 2

Place the toe of your left ski boot into the front of the left ski binding. The rounded edge of the boot should be set into the front of the binding evenly, so that the right and left sides of the rounded toe are both facing forward.

    • 3

Put a small amount of pressure into the left toe of the boot while setting the heel of the boot directly into the back of the ski binding. Step onto the binding, putting pressure on the heel and allowing the boot to click into place. The boot should be perfectly aligned and secure on the binding. Repeat with opposite ski boot.
