Instructions

-
1
Heat a full pot of water until it is boiling.
-
2
Place the handle of your ski pole into the water for five to 10 minutes to loosen the glue on the grip.
-
3
Place the handle into a vise and slowly remove the grip. Repeat with the second pole. Securing the pole in a door jam or having a friend pull off the grip also can work in place of a vise.
-
4
Mark both poles where you want to cut them. Use a tape measure if needed to make sure your marks are at the proper spot for the height you desire.
-
5
Put on protective eyewear. Gloves are also a good safety item to wear for handling the poles, especially after cutting.
-
6
Put a pole in a vise and and clamp it down so your guide (or just the blade) lands right at your mark on the pole.
-
7
Saw back and forth until you have a clean cut all the way through your pole. Repeat with second pole.
-
8
Use an emery cloth or board to round off the cut ends to keep them from snagging or splintering.
-
9
Reattach the grips on to your poles. If grips are not snug, place a bit of rubber cement on the inside of the grips to get them to seal to the pole.
