Ski Resorts near Boulder, Colorado

Boulder is home to the University of Colorado, Boulder campus and is about 30 miles north of Denver, Colorado. According to the Boulder tourism website, the city was "recently rated the '#1 Sports Town in America' by Outside Magazine." There are plenty of outdoor recreational activities near Boulder, including skiing and snowboarding. The Eldora Mountain Resort is the closest ski resort to Boulder, however there are numerous others within about an hour's drive of the town, including Loveland and Echo Mountain.
  1. Eldora Mountain Resort

    • This ski and snowboarding resort is the closest to Boulder, located just 21 miles away from downtown. There is a round-trip bus to the resort from Boulder that is free for students and costs $4 each way as of September 2010 for non-students. The resort receives 300 inches of snow a year and has snow-making coverage for each of its groomed trails. There are 680 acres of skiable terrain with a base elevation of 9,200 feet and a top elevation of 10,800 feet. The resort offers single lessons and class packages for skiers of all skill levels aged 4 and up. There is no lodging at the resort; however accommodations are as close as eight miles away. There are four restaurants on-site, including one on top of the mountain.

    Echo Mountain

    • Echo Mountain is just under 60 miles from Boulder and is the closest ski area to Denver, Colorado. It receives approximately 220 inches of snow each season and has a top elevation of 10,500 feet. There are 16 runs, five freestyle terrain parks and three lifts. The resort has an extensive ski and ride school with group and private lessons for ages 4 and up. The school also offers freestyle skiing lessons for adults. The lifts and trails are open for 12 hours on Mondays and Wednesdays, offering working skiers the chance to hit the slopes on less crowded weekdays. There are two cafes on-site, the Lodge and the Cabin.

    Loveland Ski Area

    • The Loveland Ski Area is approximately 77 miles from Boulder, just off I-70. Loveland has 1,570 skiable acres and 93 trails with a base elevation of 10,800 feet and a top elevation of 13,010 feet. There are 10 lifts, including a ski school-only lift. The ski school offers lessons for people aged 4 and up and has single day or package lessons for multiple week learning experiences. The school also has advanced classes for all terrain, all conditions skiing. There are five restaurants, bars and cafeterias on-site. Loveland also offers childcare for children between 1 and 12 years of age.
