Ski Resorts near Gunstock, New Hampshire

The mountains of New Hampshire attract visitors looking for an opportunity to ski and snowboard. The central part of the state has numerous ski resorts clustered near Lake Winnipesauke. Among these is the Gunstock Ski Area, which dominates the tiny town of Gilford. The ski resorts Ragged Mountain and Tenney Mountain are within easy driving distance of Gilford.
  1. The Gunstock Mountain Resort

    • The Gunstock Mountain Resort in Gilford covers 227 acres and has 55 different trails. Sixty percent of the trails are for intermediate skiers and 25 percent are for experts. The remaining trails are for beginners. Eight ski lifts service the mountain, which has a 1,400 foot vertical drop. The longest run is 1 ½ miles. In addition to alpine skiing, Gunstock Mountain also has a terrain park for snowboarding, a tubing run, and cross country ski trails. Unlike most ski resorts which close after dark, Gunstock offers night skiing as late as 10 pm on Friday and Saturday; approximately half of the trails stay open after dark. On the resort's grounds, there is an equipment rental shop, as well as a clothing retailer. The resort is served by a sandwich shop, a food court, and a restaurant/pub, and a bar.

    Ragged Mountain

    • Ragged Mountain Ski Resort is located near Danbury, about 35 miles from Gunstock Mountain Resort. The 45 trails at Ragged Mountain crisscross over 200 acres. Forty percent of the trails are at the intermediate level, while the remaining trails are split evenly between novice and expert. The largest vertical drop is 1,250 feet. In addition to the alpine trails, the resort also has a small terrain park for snowboarding. For food, the resort has an upscale cafeteria, a sit down restaurant, and a bar. Equipment rental is available.

    Tenney Mountain

    • Tenney Mountain Resort is about 35 miles away from Gunstock in the town of Plymouth. Tenney Mountian is a smaller ski resort that covers 110 acres. Roughly half of the trails are listed as intermediate, slightly over a third are for experts, and the remainder are graded for beginners. The highest vertical drop at Tenney Mountain is 1,400 feet. On average, the mountain receives about 140 inches of snow per year. In addition to alpine skiing, the resort offers visitors the chance to snowshoe, and learn how to ice climb; a terrain park and tubing run also are on site. Visitors to the resort can eat at the full service cafeteria or grab a drink at the resort's small bar.
